Stories that are not false but have some sort of distorted truth that was exaggerated over time, there called URBAN LEGENDS! An urban legend is basically a story that was originally thought to be true but exaggerated over time similar to a real legend. They are not false but they are also not true. Urban legends started from a person who tells a story that might have happened to someone but doesn’t know the whole story so adds a little something in the story, and then passed on over time. Urban legends contain a plot and a character. Urban legends started by professor Harold Brunvand at Harvard who wrote a review upon a legend calling it urban. Three urban legends I found interesting are the Mason slaughtering puppy’s legend, needles being plotted into candy bars legend, and the Who Framed Roger Rabbit mishap legend.
The first legend I found interesting was the legend being passed that Marilyn Manson slaughtered puppies at one of his concerts. The legend was someone sent a mass email saying that Manson slaughtered puppies once during his concert. This was a rumor that someone had started just so there would be another high profile rock star in the media. He was said to just be another Ozzy Osbourne or Alice Cooper. This rumor was founded untrue and completely false. Manson has other urban legends such as removing of ribs for own pleasure as well as throwing illegal drugs into the crowds during concerts. This started as some obscene joke that got exaggerated through email. Even though Manson does do obscene gestures he does have limits.
The second legend I found interesting was the legend that a man was plotting needles and pins in snickers bars on Halloween. There was talk about a man plotting needles in treats to kill kids. This was found to be a true urban legend. The man was charged when a 14 year old boy bit into a snickers bar and was pricked in the mouth by a snickers bar. Other candy bars were found with needles and pins in them. No medical attention required but the man was charged. This was probably started also as a joke that was actually proven true. The year was classified as a bad Halloween with other drug planting in candy.
The last urban legend that I found to be of interest was the Who Framed Roger Rabbit legend, that Donald Duck had said various cuss words and a racial slur to Daffy Duck in an argument scene. What was said in duck form was goddurn stupid nitwit. Keeping in mind Donald duck talks with a sort of lisp. The word was mistaken for goddamn stupid n****. Disney had been rumored to put subliminal messages in there movies only hidden. This was only mistaken for something. It is very untrue. No one noticed this until the cartoon was six years old. This would have never gotten passed a PG ratting if it wasn’t so unclear. The rumor was probably started by groups of people who have some sort of hearing problem.
So in conclusion three urban legends I found interesting are the Mason slaughtering puppy’s legend, needles being plotted into candy bars legend, and the Who Framed Roger Rabbit mishap legend. These are all examples of urban legends either proven false or true.

Manson Urban Legend
Marilyn Manson slaughtering of puppies- Manson a message was sent by a person saying that Marilyn Manson would during his shows slaughter a puppy. This was a rumor just to replace old acts Ozzy Osbourne and Alice Cooper. The rumor started in 97 and gave his band bad reputation ever since. This was basically said just so there would be some new outcast rocker in the media. Other than puppies he has been said to remove ribs for contortion and threw drugs into the crowd. These were all proven to be a lie or an untrue urban legend. Even though Manson does do obscene things he has limits.

Medias effects on voters. Extra Credit
Media has effected voters opinons in various differnt ways. One way it has effected young voters was in myspace or such it has connected other voters to talk about there opinons. All the voters only know of 2 parties the Republican and Democratic. How come none know about 3rd parties. They are constantly not talked about. So on these websites they demonstrate only the 2 canidates that are talked about and show them off. When these people see the election on myspace they think its important just because its on there. But it also doesnt impact there decsion. Media effects there decision by showing pictures of them only in cartoon making them look dumb. All in all media effects decsions in various ways.

Media Violence
Violence in the media effects differnt people in differnt ways. The study of media violence has made me realize that it really does impact our society very greatly. It has made our culture more and more violent as they keep intaking it. Media violence makes males more dominant and showing males bad examples of how we should treat women. The amount of media violence is very high and its making our society dumb and violent. To sum this up media violence should be stoped and is impacting us very greatly.
